Bentonite has hygroscopicity and can absorb 8~15 times the volume of water. After water absorption, it expands, and can expand several times, up to more than 30 times. Bentonite and rubber and other organic cemented materials can be composed of a maximum expansion rate of 250% ~ 500% water-contact expansion rubber, the water-contact expansion rubber can be made into waterproof materials such as water expansion water-stop strips, this material is set with concrete construction joints, water expansion occurs, play the role of water absorption and water stopping. At present, the most commonly used rubber waterstop rubber is neoprene, natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber. Bentonite can be directly added to the rubber, so that the rubber has the characteristics of flame retardant, insulating and wear-resistant.

Organic modified bentonite is formed by adding nano-bentonite to the ethylene glycol solution of organic quaternary ammonium salt, and then adjusting the stirring and ion exchange reaction. Modified bentonite is used for excellent active or functional filler of rubber products such as tires and rubber sheets, which can improve the performance of rubber products, reduce the cost of rubber products, improve the bonding strength of rubber and cord, and improve the processing performance of rubber materials. Compared with carbon black and silica, it is easier to mix with rubber, and can promote the dispersion of other additives, significantly reduce the mixing energy consumption, and shorten the vulcanization scorching time.

Nano-scale organic bentonite is mainly used in rubber for nano modification of rubber products, improving its air tightness, fixed extension attraction and wear resistance, corrosion resistance, weather resistance and chemical resistance.

At the same time, bentonite is filled into plastics, which can reduce product costs, reduce the consumption of plastic raw materials, provide processing properties of plastics, and improve the performance indicators of plastics, such as dimensional stability, flame retardancy, electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, opacity and rigidity.
